Follow these six stages in order. They work for plug-in range extenders, desktop repeaters and most mesh satellite nodes.

01

Check what you need before starting

  • Working internet on the main router (test it on a phone first).
  • Your WiFi network name (SSID) and password written down correctly.
  • A phone, tablet or laptop with WiFi to run the setup wizard.
  • The extender's default web address, IP and login printed on its label.
02

Position the extender for setup

  • For the first configuration, plug the extender into a socket in the same room as the router.
  • Wait 60-90 seconds until the power LED stops blinking.
  • If an old configuration exists, hold the reset pinhole for 10 seconds to start clean.
03

Join the extender's setup network

  • Open WiFi settings on your device and disconnect from your home network.
  • Select the extender's default SSID — it usually ends with _EXT, _SETUP or the model name.
  • If it asks for a key, use the WiFi/PIN printed on the label or the quick-start card.
  • Turn mobile data off so the phone does not leave the setup network.
04

Open the setup page and sign in

  • Type the extender's setup URL or default IP into the browser address bar (not the search box).
  • Use the default username and password, commonly admin / admin or admin / password.
  • Create a new admin password when prompted and store it safely.
05

Connect the extender to your home WiFi

  • Let the wizard scan for nearby networks, then select your router's SSID.
  • Enter the WiFi password exactly — check upper case, lower case and special characters.
  • Repeat the same for the 5 GHz band if your extender is dual band.
  • Choose whether the extended network keeps the same name or uses an _EXT suffix.
06

Relocate, update and test

  • Unplug the extender and move it midway between the router and the weak-signal area.
  • Wait for the signal LED to turn solid green/blue, which means a healthy link.
  • Open the admin panel again and install any pending firmware update.
  • Run a speed test while standing in the former dead zone to confirm the improvement.

Placement rules that decide your speed

An extender can only rebroadcast what it receives. Placement matters more than the price of the device.

The halfway rule

Install midway between router and dead zone, with clear line of sight where possible.

Avoid interference

Keep at least 1 metre away from microwaves, TVs, cordless phones and metal shelving.

Height helps

Wall sockets above table height spread the signal further than floor sockets.
